We have selected a support facility, Fresh Foods Manufacturing, to participate in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR 2013 National Building Competition: Battle of the Buildings. This year’s competition includes teams from more than 3,200 buildings across the country going head-to-head to see who can reduce their energy use the most.

How We’re Improving!

Our Fresh Foods Manufacturing facility recently received an extensive lighting upgrade, which included the installation of over 350 highly efficient LED (light emitting diode) fixtures. Additionally, a team member awareness program kicks off in October and runs throughout the competition.

We did this in response to Environmental Protection Agency reports which state that energy use in commercial buildings accounts for nearly 20 percent of total U.S. energy use and greenhouse gases at a cost of more than $100 billion per year. Also, they say that nearly 30 percent of energy used in commercial buildings is wasted.
