Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR is a national campaign from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that encourages all Americans to join with millions of others and take small steps that make a big difference in the fight against global warming.

What Giant Eagle is doing

As an ENERGY STAR partner, Giant Eagle has committed to promoting the EPA's Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR campaign as a pledge driver. We set our 2010 greenhouse gas reduction pledge goal at 356,000 lbs. If we achieve this goal, the reduction of greenhouse gases would equal the emissions saved by removing 31 passenger vehicles from the road for a year.

What you can do

Make the pledge by agreeing to take any of the following energy conserving steps:

  • Change light bulbs to those that have earned the ENERGY STAR (CFLs).
  • Use a programmable thermostat to save energy while asleep or away from home.
  • Enable power management settings on computers and monitors.
  • Purchase ENERGY STAR qualified products such as electronics, appliances and office products.
  • Make sure your home is well-insulated and sealed.

When you pledge, you are making a commitment to save energy and money and fight global warming by taking energy conserving actions in your home. To date, more than two million people across the nation have pledged to take small, energy-saving steps that can change the world.

If every American household took part in the ENERGY STAR pledge, we would save more than $18 billion in annual energy costs, and would prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from more than 18 million cars. Take the pledge!

Since 2008, our customers' and Team Members' active participation enabled us collect pledges reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 3,170,948 pounds, which is equivalent to removing 275 passenger vehicles from the road!

If you pledged last year, we thank you for commitment to the environment. Remember that you can pledge your energy conservation activities again this coming year.
