October is National Celiac Awareness Month! Giant Eagle® understands the daily challenge of living with celiac disease or gluten intolerance. We know that finding foods for your dietary needs is not always easy, so we work continuously to expand our gluten free product offering and provide tools to simplify your shopping and meal preparation.

Gluten Free Foods

For your shopping convenience, Giant Eagle provides an online guide of gluten free products available in our stores. For customers with an iPhone® subscription, apps such as Is That Gluten Free? and iEatOut Gluten & Allegen Free are available to help with gluten free shopping and dining.

We also offer ongoing classes and food tasting of gluten free recipes and products. For class schedules, check with your local Giant Eagle.

MyPlate

Below is a sample meal plan using gluten free products available in Giant Eagle stores. The meal plan meets the nutrition the U.S. Department of Agriculture MyPlate recommendations.

If you prefer smaller, more frequent eating, simply move foods from meal time to snack time. Your snacks become "mini meals," providing the same daily nutrients and energy you need to get you through the day!

BREAKFAST Chex® Cereal*
 

With skim milk, blueberries and almonds

  • 1 cup skim milk
  • 1 cup Chex cereal
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 oz. slivered almonds

*Honey Nut, Chocolate, Cinnamon, Rice and Corn Chex are gluten free. Wheat and Multi-Bran Chex are NOT gluten free.

LUNCH Chicken Salad Sandwich
 

With cut raw veggies, apple and yogurt

  • 1 Nature's Basket® organic low-fat blueberry yogurt, 6 oz.
  • 1 medium apple
  • 2 Tbsp. hummus (check for GF varieties)
  • ½ cup celery
  • ½ cup carrots
  • ½ cup red peppers
  • 1 Udi's® whole-grain gluten free bun
  • 1 Tbsp. light mayo (check for GF varieties)
  • 3 oz. Giant Eagle canned chunk white chicken
My Plate Requirements  
Fruit Apple
Grains Whole-grain bun
Protein Chicken and hummus
Vegetable Celery, carrots, red pepper

DINNER Homemade Lump Crab Pizza

 

With tossed salad and pumpkin

  • 2 slices gluten free lump crab pizza
  • 2 cups tossed veggie salad
  • 1 Tbsp. Nature's Basket organic roasted red pepper dressing
  • ½ cup can pumpkin, with cinnamon if desired
