The Green Power Partnership
The Green Power Partnership supports companies looking to purchase renewable energy. Giant Eagle® joined the Partnership in September 2006, purchasing enough renewable power to earn a spot on the EPA's Top 10 Retail Partners list for the third quarter of 2006. Giant Eagle® currently purchases 17 million kWh of renewable energy electricity annually and recently earned a spot on the Top 20 Retail Partners List for the first quarter of 2009. The GreenChill Advanced Refrigeration Partnership
GreenChill is an EPA cooperative alliance with the supermarket industry to promote advanced technologies, strategies, and practices that reduce refrigerant charges and emissions of ozone-depleting substances and greenhouse gases. Giant Eagle® became a founding member of GreenChill in 2007. Since then Giant Eagle® has earned a 2007 GreenChill Award for achieving low leak rates in our refrigeration systems and three 2008 GreenChill Awards for achieving the best leak rate, and achieving both our target and our stretch emissions rates in our refrigeration systems. In 2009, our Market District® Robinson received Pennsylvania's first GreenChill Gold level certification for using green refrigeration technology. The ENERGY STAR® Partnership
The ENERGY STAR® Partnership is a joint partnership between the EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy to help Americans save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. Giant Eagle® became an ENERGY STAR® partner in 2001. Since then, the EPA recognized Giant Eagle® in 2004-2010 with ENERGY STAR® Awards for our commitment to protecting the environment through energy efficiency. In addition, 129 Giant Eagle® supermarkets have earned an ENERGY STAR® label for superior energy performance as well as our American Seaway Foods Retail Support Center in Cleveland, OH.
