Gulf-Caught Shrimp: Cooking How-To's

Jumbo shrimp, lemon wedges and vegetables

Sweet and sumptuous — our Gulf shrimp are caught fresh, frozen at sea and shipped directly from the Gulf of Mexico. They're the best–tasting shrimp you'll ever eat!

Know Your Shrimp

  • White shrimp have a mild flavor, and are suitable for many different cooking styles. Most often found in the Gulf of Mexico, white shrimp account for 35% of all domestic–caught shrimp in the United States.
  • Brown shrimp have a stronger flavor, and are best suited for shrimp cocktail, battering and frying.

Preparing Shrimp is Easier than You Think!

With the seafood experts at Giant Eagle as your guide, you'll be peeling shrimp like a pro in no time!

  1. Remove the outer shell moving from head to tail. The tails can be kept on or removed depending on how shrimp will be used (tails can be decorative).
  2. To remove the vein, use a small paring knife to cut along back side of shrimp. Once vein is exposed, remove it either with the tip of the paring knife or your fingers.
  3. Place peeled and deveined shrimp in a bowl of ice water until ready to use.

Don't forget — practice makes perfect!
