Stuffing is essential!
The stuffing is almost as important as the bird itself. Add a few new ingredients to your favorite recipe to create something a little different, or try one of these:
- Create a simple stuffing of onions, celery and bread. Mix it with hot water, chicken stock and a dab of butter for outstanding flavor. Add moisture using a reduced stock from the gizzard and bones of the turkey.
- Want to add kick? Try Savory Dijon Stuffing, or add south-of-the-border flavor with green chiles in Southwest Cornbread Stuffing.
- Celeriac, a type of celery grown specifically for its roots, has a unique, delicate flavor. Try shredding it and tossing it into your favorite stuffing recipe.
- Finely chopped roasted chestnuts add flavor to stuffing, as does sage, rosemary, thyme, chervil, or black pepper. Roasted Chestnut Stuffing is a traditional favorite.
- Add a little sweetness by combining apples and dried cherries with chicken sausage in this Apple and Sausage Stuffing with Italian and pumpernickel bread.
- Try adding crumbled bacon, pancetta or sausage to your stuffing to create a moist and delectable Oyster Bacon Stuffing or Sausage Fennel Stuffing.
