April 22 is Earth Day and a good time to introduce or revive an emphasis on conserving resources, saving energy, and being good to our environment. And going “green” can be a way you can save dollars too.
- Renew your supply of Giant Eagle® reusable shopping bags and share some with friends and relatives. And remember to recycle plastic shopping bags. All of our stores have containers outside the store.
- Check out the environmentally safe cleaning products. These are biodegradable, unscented or with natural scents.
- Ask yourself do you really need to have food or beauty products individually packaged or is it something you could portion at home into reusable containers? Check out larger sizes and basic packaging….another potential savings of $$ as well.
- Start looking for locally grown produce…it’s the beginning of the season and more will be in Giant Eagle® stores as the growing season progresses. This means less energy is used in transporting the food.
- Although we love seeing you at Giant Eagle®, make a shopping list to help you shop-smart! And do plan to buy extra supplies of the value priced non-perishables.
- Make Giant Eagle® your one-stop shopping place for your food and grocery items banking, entertainment, grocery and even cleaning needs! Now that’s being green!
- Try organically grown fruits, vegetables, grains and foods made from organically grown ingredients. You will also find milk, cheese, meat, eggs that are grown following organic farming and production standards…..earth and people friendly.
- Go green when it comes to health and beauty products. From soaps and creams to cosmetics, our team members can help you select the ones that fit your needs.
- Plan ahead for some cook once and serve twice meals to save on long use of large appliances. Use the crock pot for a soup, stew, pot roast or other foods that can be used for more than one meal. Freeze the extra portions for other meals. Or roast a chicken or other meat and package the extras to use cold on salads and sandwiches.
- Make composting and recycling a family must!
