As you're scanning your list of gift recipients this holiday season, one type of recipient will always stand out — the type who's difficult to buy for. But this year, don't worry! Gift cards are always welcome — and perfect for those who are tough to choose gifts for.
Don't know your boss well enough? Have a cousin who's super-picky? Know a friend who has everything? Gift cards let 'em choose! (Editor's note: At the Giant Eagle® Gift Card Gallery, we feature more than 90 types of cards — so you're sure to find something for everyone. And, if you require a personalized touch for a quick gift, try Giant Eagle® GifterGo downloadable gift vouchers. Worried that a gift card isn't personal enough? This year, don't present your gift cards by themselves. Add extra-special touches, and make your holiday season a gift-giving event to remember.
Select themed accessories and personalized packaging
Consider the tastes and hobbies of your recipient when putting together a gift card presentation. For example, if you're giving a coffee-shop gift card to a java aficionado, place the gift card inside a big mug, along with some tissue paper or confetti. Wrap the cup-and-card combo in cellophane, and tie it up with a bow. Similarly, a burgeoning chef will love a gift card taped to a kitchen accessory, such as a serving dish or a cutting board.
Other ideas for gift card presentation — to spark your imagination:
- Is there a sports buff on your list? If you're giving a gift card for sports gear, place it inside a logoed ball cap. (You'll probably know which basketball, baseball, football, or hockey team your recipient is most passionate about.) Or, if your recipient is an athlete, wrap the gift card with much-needed sports accessories, such as a water bottle or snack bars.
- Is your recipient expecting? Pair a new-baby gift card with a small book about baby names, or a baby "keepsake" scrapbook. For new parents, a gift card-and-baby-toy combo is always appreciated.
- For a body care or cosmetics lover, bury a gift card in a potpourri-filled box. Wrap the box with pretty floral or patterned paper, and decorate with dried flowers instead of ribbons.
- If your recipient is a creative type, focus on packaging. Wrap up an artist's gift card in a box filled with confetti and felt-tipped drawing pens. A writer or poet will love a gift card placed in a small bag along with a poetry book or dictionary.
- Kids love toys and snacks! If your recipient is younger than 10, place his or her gift card in a box filled with favorite snacks. Or, tuck the gift card in the arms of a small stuffed animal, and place the gift in a brightly colored box. Color is key, so wrap a child's gift card up with lots of bright wrapping paper and bows.
Another idea — pair your gift cards with greeting cards
Tuck a gift card inside a greeting card with a thoughtful message, for a gift that is sure to be meaningful. If you're a visual designer, a hand-drawn card is always appreciated. If you're no artist — but have a way with words — consider buying a blank card and writing a personalized greeting to your recipient.
If you're not feeling creative — or are short on time — check out the wide selection of greeting cards at Giant Eagle®. Sign your name on your greeting card of choice with colored ink — or write a brief note — stick the gift card inside, and seal the envelope.
