To cook an outstanding meal, you need an outstanding cut of beef. That's why Giant Eagle® carries only the top two cuts of USDA graded beef — Prime and Choice.
The USDA grading system is based on the length of time the beef is aged and the amount of fat and marbling (small, white flecks of fat within the cut) the beef contains. The more marbling, the better the flavor.
USDA Prime Less than 2% of all beef qualifies as Prime. Ribbons of fat marble bright-red meat, which is firm to the touch. This makes a Prime cut of meat taste unbelievable. Once only available at fine restaurants or specialty stores, Prime beef is now sold at many Giant Eagle® stores.
USDA Choice Choice-grade beef is one of the consistently best-tasting meats available. Our favorite, Choice-Certified Angus Beef®, is well-marbled for a tender, juicy flavor.
