Hardy Mums Care & Planting
When to Plant
For long life, mums need to be well-established before winter sets in.
Where to Plant
Plant mums in a sunny garden spot, and pair with other fall bloomers like hardy asters, lilies, or mini roses.
How to Care for
Newly planted mums should be watered 2-3 times per week.
After the ground freezes, cover mums with 3" to 4" of mulch or straw to help them survive the winter.
In spring — early summer, when mums are about 5" tall, pinch off the top 1-2" of growth every 2-3 weeks until mid-July to increase the number of flowers.
