LEED® certification is the USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) standard for designating environmentally responsible buildings. The store was designed and built using processes and materials that are environmentally friendly, and features:
- Naturally Beautiful Light with more than 40 skylights, which minimize electricity usage.
- Fresh Air monitored with air quality sensors and preserved through the use of adhesives, sealants, paints, carpeting and wood products low in volatile organic compounds, as well as a green housekeeping program.
- Convenient Access with on-site bike racks, adjacent housing and nearby busways.
- Planted Roof — one of the city's largest green roofs, which cleanses and reduces storm water run-off.
- Water Conservation with landscaping featuring drought-tolerant vegetation, which requires no irrigation.
- Energy Savings — consuming 20% less energy than comparable, conventionally designed supermarkets, with electricity produced by green energy sources.
- Decreased Heating and Cooling with increased insulation, a green roof and skylighting.
