One of the most reliable precautions is receiving an annual flu shot. This year, you can quickly and easily receive your immunization at one of our convenient flu shot clinics.
Giant Eagle's® certified pharmacists can now administer vaccinations for any customer 18 years of age or older. No additional doctor visit is necessary and we'll even handle the insurance paperwork for you.
Immunizations are available for the following:
- Pneumonia — available all year
- Influenza — available seasonally, September through March
- Shingles* — available all year

Immunization Recommendations
Immunizations are an important preventive measure against many debilitating or deadly diseases — and for some at-risk groups, they're absolutely essential. Your Giant Eagle® pharmacist can help you decide if immunization is right for you.
You should consider an influenza immunization if:
- You want to reduce the risk of becoming ill with influenza or of transmitting influenza to others.
- You are 50 years old or older.
- You are or will be pregnant during influenza season.
- You have chronic pulmonary (including asthma), cardiovascular (except hypertension), renal, hepatic, hematological or metabolic disorders (including diabetes mellitus).
- You have immunosuppression (including immunosuppression caused by medications or by human immunodeficiency virus).
- You are a resident of a nursing home or other long-term care facility.
You should consider a pneumonia (pneumococcal) vaccine if:
- You are 65 years old or older.
- You have a serious long-term health problem such as heart disease, sickle cell disease, alcoholism, leaks of cerebrospinal fluid, lung disease (not including asthma), diabetes or liver cirrhosis.
- You have a low resistance to infection due to Hodgkin's disease, multiple myeloma, cancer treatment with x-rays or drugs, treatment with long-term steroids, bone marrow or organ transplant, kidney failure, HIV/AIDS, lymphoma, leukemia, or other cancers, nephrotic syndrome, damaged spleen or no spleen.
- You are an Alaskan Native or from certain Native American populations.
You should consider a Zostavax (Shingles) vaccine if:
- You are 60 years old or older.**
- You are infected with or are carrying the varicella-zoster (chickenpox) virus.
- Your immune system has been weakened by HIV infection, cancer, cancer drugs, radiation treatments or organ transplant.

**The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends a single dose of the shingles (Herpes Zoster) vaccine for adults age 60 and older.
