For the past 18 years, Giant Eagle’s® Be A Smart Shopper! Field Trip has provided schools the opportunity to help children learn about healthy living and nutrition.
The Be A Smart Shopper!™ program is designed to reinforce principles of healthful eating, a healthy lifestyle and value. At your local Giant Eagle®, this field trip encourages students to become passionate about incorporating health and wellness into their day-to-day lives. Students learn life-skill nutrition lessons in a fun and real-life environment through the use of hands-on activities and discussion.
The FREE Be A Smart Shopper! field trip will help children in grades Pre-K – 6 develop and enhance skills in:
- Healthy living and nutrition
- Reading label and nutrition information
- Basic food safety
- Meal planning
- Economic principles
- Decision-making
- Trained tour leaders modify the field trips to be grade appropriate. The field trips are 45-60 minutes in length and are limited to 30 participants per tour – although this number varies by location.
