Mulled Wine

  1. 1.5 liter young, fruity red wine (Pinot Noir, Shiraz or Zinfandel)

  2. 1 orange, sliced

  3. 1 lemon, sliced

  4. 2 cinnamon sticks

  5. 1/4 tsp. nutmeg, minced

  6. 1/4 tsp. cloves

  7. 1/4 tsp. powdered ginger

  8. 1/3 to 2/3 cup brown sugar

Ingredients

  • 1.5 liter young, fruity red wine (Pinot Noir, Shiraz or Zinfandel)
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg, minced
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. powdered ginger
  • 1/3 to 2/3 cup brown sugar

Recipe Directions:

Combine all ingredients except sugar in a large pot over medium heat. Bring wine to a low simmer and cook for about 25 minutes. Do not allow the liquid to come to a full boil. Before serving, taste wine and add sugar to preferred level of sweetness; depending on the wine used, more or less sugar may be desired. Strain mixture through a mesh sieve and serve in mugs or sturdy wine glasses.

Non-Alcohol Version
Replace wine with 1.5 liters of sparkling grape juice or apple cider.
