Health is the most important thing for all of us. Getting a COVID-19 vaccine to help keep yourself, your family and your neighbors healthy should be easy. At Giant Eagle Pharmacy, you now have a variety of convenient options to get this crucial protection.

o   Pfizer (age 12+ years)
Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for adults and adolescents can be administered to patients 12+ years of age. It can be administered for Dose 1 and Dose 2. It can be administered as Dose 3 to immunocompromised patients. It can also be administered as a booster dose for patients 18+ years of age. This vaccine is available at most Giant Eagle Pharmacy locations.

o   Pfizer Pediatric (age 5-11 years)
Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccine can be administered to patients 5-11 years of age. It can be administered for Dose 1 and Dose 2. This vaccine is available at select locations. Visit our appointment scheduler to search for appointment availability for this vaccine.

o   Moderna (age 18+ years)
Moderna COVID-19 vaccine can be administered to patients 18+ years of age. It can be administered for Dose 1 and Dose 2. It can be administered as Dose 3 to immunocompromised patients. It can also be administered as a booster dose. This vaccine is available at most Giant Eagle Pharmacy locations.

o   Johnson and Johnson (age 18+ years)
Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine can be administered to individuals 18+ years of age. It can be administered as Dose 1. It can also be administered as a booster dose. This vaccine is available at select locations. Call your local Giant Eagle Pharmacy for availability of this vaccine.

  • Insurance card (including Medicare Part B, Pharmacy or Medical Coverage cards)

Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine


Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccine can be administered to patients 5-11 years of age. It is administered as two doses, given 3 weeks apart.

This vaccine is a different vaccine product than the original adult and adolescent Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The supply is currently limited but is available at select locations. Visit our appointment scheduler to search for appointment availability for this vaccine.

Scheduling Your Second Dose


The Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are two-dose vaccines. For a two-dose vaccine to be fully effective, it is important that both doses are given at the correct time.

 

An appointment will be required for your second dose approximately three to four weeks after your first dose.

The Pharmacy team will provide you with your second dose appointment day and time prior to leaving the Pharmacy after your first dose.

Covid-19 Booster


COVID-19 vaccine boosters are available for patients 18+ years of age who:

  • Received their initial dose of Janssen COVID-19 vaccine at least 2 months ago
  • Received dose two of their initial Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine series at least 6 months ago
    • Are immunocompromised and received dose three of their Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine series at least 6 months ago
    • Received the recommended doses of certain COVID-19 vaccines not approved or authorized by FDA

COVID-19 Vaccine Additional Dose Information


The CDC has approved an additional dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for individuals who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. The additional COVID-19 vaccine must be the same manufacturer as the first and second COVID-19 vaccines (Example: If you had Pfizer for your first two doses, you would need to receive an additional dose of the Pfizer vaccine). The additional dose can be administered at least 28 days after you received your second dose.

Moderately and severely immunocompromised people include:

  • Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
  • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

For each COVID-19 vaccine authorized under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that vaccine recipients or their caregivers are provided with certain vaccine-specific EUA information to help make an informed decision about vaccination. Electronic Vaccine Record


Now you can view your COVID-19 vaccine details electronically, save those details for ready access, and securely share them with others in support of return-to-work, return-to-school, and other activities.

Please allow 24-48 hours for your record to update following your vaccination. To receive your COVID-19 vaccine information, you must have received your COVID-19 vaccine at Giant Eagle Pharmacy, or a Giant Eagle Pharmacy sponsored COVID-19 vaccine clinic.

How Will the Vaccine Be Administered?


Giant Eagle Pharmacists are all certified to administer immunizations. When you arrive at the Pharmacy, please go directly to the drop-off window for your appointment. You must wear a mask/face covering and adhere to social distancing as you wait to receive your vaccination.

Who’s Eligible for the Vaccine?


All Individuals 18 years of age and older can receive the Moderna or Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals 12 years of age and older may receive the Pfizer Adult and Adolescent (12+) COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals 5-11 years of age may receive the Pfizer Pediatric (5-11 years) COVID-19 vaccine. If you are under 18 years of age, you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Talk to your Pharmacist to determine which vaccine is best for you.

What You Need to Know About COVID-19 Vaccines


COVID-19 is caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Patients may contract COVID-19 from respiratory droplets from another person infected with the virus. COVID-19 symptoms may include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fatigue, headache, congestion, body aches, new loss of smell or taste, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

As COVID-19 vaccines become available, Giant Eagle Pharmacy is prepared to make this protection available to you and your family as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping communities safe and healthy.

There are currently four vaccines:

While the CDC generally recommends that a booster be the same vaccine product as the original COVID-19 vaccine that you received, you can choose to get a different vaccine product for your booster.

Yes, the CDC is providing immunization cards and Giant Eagle will give one to every person who receives a vaccination.

No, mRNA vaccines do not contain active SARs-CoV-2 virus and cannot give you COVID-19.

Patients who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 may choose to receive 2 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at least 21 days apart, 2 doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at least 28 days apart, or one dose of Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. After being vaccinated, patients with a weakened immune system can receive a third dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least 28 days after they receive their second dose. Patients 18+ years of age who are eligible for a booster may receive a dose of COVID-19 vaccine at least 2 months after their Janssen vaccine dose or at least 6 months after their Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine second dose. Immunocompromised patients may receive a booster at least 6 months after their third dose of vaccine.

The second dose should be given as soon as possible after the minimum dosing window. Dose 1 does not need to be repeated.

No, vaccines are not interchangeable for the initial vaccination series. The COVID-19 vaccine series should be initiated and completed with the same product. Booster doses may be a different vaccine product from the initial vaccination. Talk to your Pharmacist if you would like a different vaccine product.

COVID-19 vaccines may be administered without regard to timing of other vaccines. This includes administration of COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines on the same day. Your Pharmacist may recommend that you receive the vaccines in separate arms.

Patients with current infection should wait until full recovery from acute illness and isolation period has ended. There is no minimum interval between infection and vaccination.

Patients with a previous infection may be vaccinated with no minimum interval between infection and vaccination.

Patients with known exposure in congregate healthcare or living settings may get vaccinated. Patients in outpatient or community settings should get vaccinated after a quarantine period has ended.
