Ham Leftovers

Let Us Lend a Hand with Your Ham

Remember that holiday when you completely finished off the ham? Exactly. We’re guessing that even if you had a smaller gathering this year, you still have more than enough for just one meal, which, as you’re about to see, isn’t a bad thing.

Tips for Storing
Before you can start planning what to make with your leftovers, you need to make sure they’re properly preserved. Keep leftover ham as enjoyable as your holiday feast well into the future by following a few simple steps now.

  1. Refrigerate within 2 hours of cooking – don’t leave your ham hanging out to dry … or, for bacteria to try. Wrap it tightly or place it in an airtight container and pop it in the fridge ASAP.
  2. Use it in 3-4 days – just because it’s cured doesn’t mean it’ll keep forever. Try the recipes below, make a sandwich, or …
  3. Freeze it for up to two months – even though you have extra, you probably ate your fair share and need a ham hiatus. If so, seal it from moisture and freeze to enjoy next time you crave it.

What About the Bone?

Now that you’ve made the most of your meat, don’t let the ham bone go to waste. You can use it in so many delicious ways.

Stock or Soup
Simmer your ham bone with veggies and herbs to create a flavorful base or make your soup savory. You can even give congee a go.

Beans & Greens
A pot of beans or collard greens is always a welcome place for a little smoky flavor.
