Show You Care With Homemade Holiday Cookies

The holiday season means parties, family gatherings and eating until you pop a button! One of the great joys of any holiday event is, of course, an overflowing plateful of beautifully decorated, magnificently smelling, homemade cookies. Get a jump on crafting compelling, cravable cookies with our tips, tricks and show-stopping recipes.

Better Baking
We’ve already shared our tips and tricks for making the best chocolate chip cookies, but holiday cookies are a slightly different task. Here are some ways you can create the best holiday cookies, every time:

● Use a Digital Scale
Baking is a science. A perfectly baked cookie needs the correct amount of each ingredient. Since the holidays are a time to experiment with seasonal flavors you might not always use, invest in a digital scale to ensure your measurements are always correct.

● Don’t Rotate Your Baking Sheets
You might have heard that it’s best to rotate your baking sheet in the oven often because of hot spots that might overbake your cookies. Unless you know your oven has wildly varying hot spots, it’s best to open your oven as little as possible since the risk of opening and closing your oven a lot — and letting in cool air — outweighs the benefits.

● Batch It Up
If you have a lot of parties and dinners to go to this holiday season, make your cookie dough in large batches to freeze and bake as you go. Simply freeze your dough in airtight containers and it can last up to three months! If there’s just a few days or a week in between bakes, use ice cube trays to portion out your dough so you can just pop out the squares, thaw at room temperature and bake for a short while longer than the recipe calls for.

● Don’t Get Burned
The holidays can be hectic, but a burned batch of cookies doesn’t mean you should throw in the apron! Save scorched cookies by using a grater to grate off the burnt bottoms and they’ll look — and taste — delicious!
