This year, the phrase “football season” is bittersweet. While we still may be able to see our favorite teams play on screen, we might not get to cheer in the stands and show our team pride in person. Even if we can’t tailgate the way we’d like this season, we can still get decked out in team colors and cheer on our favorite players at home. Keep reading for unique at-home tailgating activities, plus pregame ideas and appetizer recipes that are sure to make your tailgate a touchdown!
Wear & Share Your Team Colors
The easiest way to show your team spirit at home is to get decked out in your best team gear. Go full out with face paint, pom poms, big foam fingers — the works! Once you’ve got your game day outfit all set, decorate wherever you’re going to set up your tailgate — whether it’s in your backyard, garage or even right in your driveway — with your team colors. You can use streamers, banners, blankets and whatever else you’d bring to a traditional tailgate. Be sure to take lots of photos and videos and don’t forget to tag your team so they know you’re still a forever fan.
Set Up & Get Down
If you can, set up a TV outside so you can watch the game with your family. You can even set up a blow up screen or sheet projector for the ultimate viewing experience. Create a tailgating playlist you can play before and after the game — and, during commercials — to really get in the party mood.
Game Day Games
The best part of an at-home tailgating party — besides the food — should be the games. Before the big game, pick up outdoor games like corn hole, ladderball, beer pong (regular ping pong for the kids) and other outside tailgating activities you can enjoy with your family and close friends. You may not be able to watch the pros play in person, but you can make new memories by watching the people you love play and celebrate together.
