Chambersburg peaches have been known for their high quality and excellent flavor for the last hundred years. The rich soil in south-central Pennsylvania is the key to producing these delectable peaches that people look forward to year after year.
Depending on the summer, peaches from the Chambersburg area are usually available the first of August through Labor Day. Ripened on the tree and handpicked, Chambersburg peaches are in high demand throughout Pennsylvania and in many of the surrounding states, too.
Look for the “Chambersburg Peaches” sticker on your fruit or for peaches packed in boxes labeled “Chambersburg Peaches” to assure you are getting some of the best peaches available!
Prepare your peaches the way the farmers do.
4-6 ripe peaches, halved and pitted
2-3 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
Pre-heat grill to medium-high. Coat cut edge of peaches with oil. Place cut edge on grill 2 minutes to achieve grill marks, longer if necessary, flip for 1 minute.
Remove from grill and finish with the following: drizzle with honey and top with granola or balsamic vinegar glaze and bleu cheese crumbles.
4 cups fresh peaches, diced
1 sweet onion, diced
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup cider vinegar
1 cup raisins
1 cup dried cranberries
1 Tbsp. jerk seasoning
1 Tbsp. fresh ginger, grated, more or less to taste
In pan, cook all ingredients except peaches 10-15 minutes. Add peaches and reduce liquid by half. Refrigerate.
A chili pepper of your choice can be diced and added for more heat.
