A popular Swiss-style cheese from Norway. A special starter culture gives Jarlsberg a distinct sweet and slightly nutty flavor that invites but does not overpower. The large eye formation is a trademark of this cheese. Jarlseberg has a creamy texture and is much sweeter than traditional Swiss cheeses. It pairs well with almost any fruit from green grapes to pears; with beer and pretzels; on a sandwich or burger; and in recipes with ham, roast beef or scallops. Wine pairings: Jarlesberg goes well with Rieslings, Chardonnay or light red wines and Bock-style beers or amber ales.
